This past weekend I was blessed to attend Mastin Kipp’s Enter the Heart Tour in New York City. If you haven’t heard of Mastin and The Daily Love, do yourself a favor and check him out (not right this instant though, after you read my blog). I’ve been a huge fan of The Daily Love for years. In fact it was Mastin’s blogs that inspired me to start writing myself. But this was my first time attending one of his live events. And I have to say there is nothing quite like the transformational experience you get at one of these workshops.
What I loved about the Enter the Heart Tour is that I heard things that I had never heard or quite understood before. When you have been in this self growth world for a long time you think you’ve heard it all. One of the most popular phrases in this community is life begins outside your comfort zone. A very true statement, and one that most people get. If you want great things in life you have to be willing to get a little uncomfortable. But Mastin added a new dimension to this concept by stating that we need to follow our fear. Think about it….. The fact is, if we aren’t scared we aren’t growing. Anything you do that is going to stretch you beyond where you are is going to be scary. There is going to be fear there. The concept of follow your fear, is that if you are scared you are headed in the right direction, keep going.
This past year I have really been embodying this truth in my own life. I’ve gone out of my comfort zone in my business, in my body, and in my personal relationships. Even in my social life I’ve been stretching myself by participating in activities that are way outside my comfort zone. And the results have been beyond what I could have imagined. I am honestly loving life and am really excited by the new level of growth that I’ve experienced. I literally feel like my entire world got majorly upgraded in the past few months. If you’ve been following my blogs or my social media postings you know that I have been having a blast. This might just be the happiest I’ve ever been. But what you wouldn’t know is that every time I decided to try something new, every time I decided to take a step up in my business or my relationships, I was absolutely terrified.
Anxiety attacks, sleepless nights, so consumed with fear that I would break down and cry. There were many days where I felt so overwhelmed by change that I just wanted to drop everything and retreat back into my comfort zone. But I didn’t. I kept moving forward despite the anxiety. I chose to follow my fear.
It’s scary to open your heart to someone new. It’s scary to invest tons of money in expanding your business with no guarantee. Bottom line change is scary, growth is scary. But once you breakthrough that fear the reward you receive is so worth it. I am beyond happy with how these “scary” decisions turned out. And yes I still have moments of fear, but I am still reaching outside my comfort zone despite them. I now know that the thing I fear the most is what I should move towards. Fear has become a guide on how I navigate my life.
So what is that one thing that you are scared to do? Quit your job? Go on that date? End an unhealthy relationship? Deep down you know what it is. Can you be courageous this week? Can you take little baby steps towards that fear? If you are willing to step out of your comfort zone you’ll find that what you feared the most, wasn’t so scary after all. In fact it might just turn out better then you ever could have expected.
